Finding your way around

Every screen in Alviyora has the same three parts: a sidebar down the left that holds the whole system, a top bar with the things you need everywhere, and the page itself in the middle. Learn those three and nothing in the product is more than two clicks away.

The sidebar#

The sidebar is grouped, and the groups are in a deliberate order: setting something up always comes before using it. An administrator working down the rail from the top never arrives at a screen that needs something they have not configured yet.

Click a group heading to open or close it. What you leave open is remembered, and the group containing the page you are on is never closed on you.

Attendance sits above People even though staff have to exist before anyone can clock in. That is on purpose: setup order tells you where to look once, but attendance is what people open every day.

Collapsing it#

The chevron at the top of the sidebar collapses it to a narrow rail of icons — useful on a laptop when a wide table needs the room. Hover an icon to see its name. Collapsed, the group headings disappear and the list runs flat; a heading you cannot read is worse than no heading.

On a phone#

Below tablet width the sidebar becomes a drawer behind the menu button at the top left. Tapping a link closes it.

The top bar#

From left to right:

• The page title, so you know where you are.
• Theme — a sun/moon control switching between dark and light.
• Language — English, Afrikaans, Sesotho or isiZulu, with its flag.
• Search — a magnifying glass that finds people and pages across the school.
• Notifications — a bell with a count of anything unread.
• You — your name, your role at this school, and a menu with your profile, settings, school switching and sign out.

Search#

The search in the top bar looks through the school’s data — learners, staff, classes — not through this manual. Type a name and go straight to that person’s profile.

Notifications#

The bell fills in when something needs you: a new announcement, an invitation, a homework item due. Unread counts also appear as red badges against the relevant sidebar entries, so a shut group still shows there is something inside it.

The dashboard#

Your dashboard is the first thing you see and it differs by role:

• Staff see today’s attendance with a clock-in button and a running timer, who else is on site right now, and the month’s attendance figures.
• Guardians see a card per child.
• Learners see today’s timetable and what homework is due.

Everyone sees announcements.

Dark and light#

Alviyora opens in dark mode. Every screenshot in this manual is dark for that reason.

The sun/moon control in the top bar switches to light. There is also a System option in Settings, which follows whatever your phone or computer is set to — so it turns dark at night on a phone that does.

Language#

Three languages ship, and the translation is complete rather than partial: English, Afrikaans, Sesotho and isiZulu. Pick yours from the top bar. It is your own choice and does not affect anybody else at your school.

Working on a phone#

Alviyora is a website, not an app — there is nothing to install, and the address is the same one you use on a computer. Every screen works on a phone; some are built for it:

• Clocking in is a phone action by design. You scan a code with the camera.
• Homework and timetables are the screens learners actually open, and both are laid out for a narrow screen first.

Keyboard and accessibility#

• Every control is reachable by Tab, with a visible focus ring.
• Tables, dialogs and menus carry proper labels for screen readers.
• Colour is never the only signal — a status has a word beside it, not just a colour.
• If your system asks for reduced motion, animations are suppressed.
