Announcements
Posting to the whole school or one audience, with read receipts.
On this page
This page has no sections.
An announcement is the school speaking to everybody at once — a closure, a sports day, a change to the timetable, a reminder about fees. It appears on the dashboard of everyone it is addressed to, the moment they next sign in.
Posting one
Read receipts
Alviyora records who has read each announcement, by name.
For the person reading, the effect is the unread badge: a red count against Announcements in the sidebar, and against the group heading when the group is collapsed, so a shut section still shows there is something inside it. Opening an announcement marks it read.
For the person who posted, it is a list: who has seen it and who has not. This is useful and it is worth being honest about its limits — a read receipt means the announcement was opened, not that it was understood or acted on. It tells you whether a message reached people. Chasing the ones it did not reach is a reasonable use of it; treating it as proof of consent is not.
Editing and deleting
An announcement can be edited after posting. Read receipts are not reset, so somebody who read version one and never returned will not know it changed.
For a correction that matters — a changed date, a changed venue — post a new announcement rather than quietly editing the old one. Everyone gets an unread badge again, which is exactly what you want.
Announcements or SMS?
Alviyora has two ways to reach a parent, and they are not interchangeable:
| Announcement | SMS | |
|---|---|---|
| Reaches | Anyone who signs in | Any phone, no sign-in |
| Costs | Nothing | A per-message charge |
| Good for | The whole school, notice-board matters | One family, something urgent |
| Proof of receipt | Read receipt | Delivery to the handset |
A school closure tomorrow is both: an announcement for the record, and an SMS for the parents who will not open the app tonight.
What everyone sees
Announcements appear:
- On the dashboard of everyone in the audience.
- Under Communication → Announcements, in full, pinned first then newest first.
- As an unread badge until opened.
Guardians see them in the parents portal alongside their children’s information.
